Telangana has secured the top position in India for organ donation, with the state recording 4.88 donations per million population in 2024, significantly higher than the national average of 0.8, according to the Union Health Ministry. In recognition of this achievement, the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) honored Telangana during the National Organ Donation Day celebrations held in Delhi, where Union Health Minister JP Nadda presented the award to representatives of the state’s “Jeevandan” program.

State Minister Rajnarsinha expressed pride over the recognition, recalling that the Jeevandan initiative was launched in 2012 to save lives through organ donations from brain-dead individuals. He urged the public to contribute to organ donation to avoid wastage and highlighted that free transplant surgeries are being provided under Aarogyasri. In 2024, organs from 188 brain-dead donors were successfully transplanted to 725 recipients.
The Jeevandan program, initiated by the Telangana government in 2012, aims to efficiently harvest organs from brain-dead patients and ensure timely transplants for those in need, offering equitable healthcare services regardless of socio-economic status.
