Bandi Sai Bhagiratha, son of Union Minister has received temporary relief from a court in a POCSO case that has caused a sensation across the state. Bhagiratha, who had been lodged as a remand prisoner in Cherlapally Jail for over a month, was granted seven days of interim (temporary) bail by the POCSO Special Court in Malkajgiri, Hyderabad. It is understood that the court granted this bail to enable him to appear for his final semester examinations. The court also imposed several strict conditions on this temporary bail, which remains in effect until the 28th of this month. Following the court’s orders, he was released from Cherlapally Jail.

What actually happened?

An FIR was registered against Bandi Bhagiratha at Pet Basheerabad Police Station on the outskirts of Hyderabad at 10 PM on May 8th. Police registered the POCSO case based on a written complaint submitted by the mother of a minor girl. According to the details mentioned in the complainant’s statement, on the night of December 31, 2025, Bandi Bhagiratha allegedly sexually harassed her 17-year-old daughter, behaved indecently with her, and committed rape. Police took up the complaint with utmost seriousness and initiated an investigation.

Arrest and Jail Remand

Amid dramatic developments in the case, Pet Basheerabad police, acting on the orders of Kukatpally DCP Ritiraj, deployed five teams and arrested Bandi Bhagiratha on the night of May 16th. He was subsequently produced before the Medchal District Judge at his residence, where the judge imposed 14 days of remand. Police then shifted Bhagiratha to Cherlapally Jail, where he remained as a remand prisoner for nearly a month.

Police Custody and Scene Reconstruction

Police approached the Malkajgiri Court to collect further key evidence in the case, and the court permitted three days of police custody. As part of the custody, Pet Basheerabad police took him from Cherlapally Jail to Aranya Farm House in Moinabad, where the alleged incident took place, and conducted a scene reconstruction. After the custody period ended, lengthy arguments were heard in court on the bail petition filed by Bhagiratha’s lawyers. The Malkajgiri Court granted conditional temporary bail for examination purposes, following which Bhagiratha walked out of jail.

“Chief Minister Upheld Loyalty to His Ally” — R.S. Praveen Kumar’s Sensational Remarks

The Malkajgiri Court granted temporary bail to Bandi Bhagiratha, the accused in the POCSO case and son of Bandi Sanjay. BRS leader R.S. Praveen Kumar made sharp and sensational remarks on social media regarding this development. He expressed strong objection to Bhagiratha being granted bail while the trial on charges of assault against a minor girl is still ongoing. He alleged that after officials released Bhagiratha from jail, he left Cherlapally Jail this morning in a Fortuner car and headed home in style.

Taking a dig at the Congress government, he said, “Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, you have upheld your loyalty to your ally very well.” He alleged that it was because the police and prosecutors under Home Minister Revanth Reddy failed to strongly oppose the accused’s bail petition in court that Bhagiratha was granted bail last night itself. Praveen Kumar raised sharp questions on the occasion, asking whether the people still believe that the lives, honour, and safety of Telangana’s women and minor girls are secure under the Congress government.
