The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved a ₹449-crore defence procurement deal aimed at strengthening India’s maritime security capabilities and advancing the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Under the agreement, the Indian Navy will acquire 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammers from Bengaluru-based company Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL). The contract was signed in New Delhi on June 10 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and has been executed under the “Buy Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured” (IDDM) category.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the project represents a major boost to indigenous defence manufacturing, with at least 75 percent of the components used in the systems being sourced domestically. Officials said the procurement aligns with the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on foreign defence imports while promoting the development of advanced military technologies within the country.

The ECGNSS jammers are designed to enhance the Indian Navy’s electronic warfare capabilities by disrupting enemy satellite navigation and targeting systems. The systems will be capable of intercepting navigation signals used by hostile ships and missiles, transmitting misleading location data through signal spoofing, and ensuring the safe operation of Indian naval platforms in challenging maritime environments. Defence officials said the induction of these systems will significantly improve the operational effectiveness of warships and naval platforms by countering precision-guided threats and strengthening maritime domain security.

The Ministry stated that the contract marks an important step in modernising India’s armed forces with advanced indigenous technologies. Officials described the acquisition as a significant milestone in enhancing maritime defence preparedness and building a self-reliant defence ecosystem capable of meeting future security challenges.
