The bitter internal dispute within the Telangana Congress party over the Kamareddy constituency has finally been put to rest. The political friction that had been simmering for several days between former minister and current government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Kamareddy Municipal former chairman Indupriyas couple reached Gandhi Bhavan. After both factions held lengthy discussions before the Congress Discipline Committee and arrived at a mutual understanding, the dispute has reached its conclusion.
A face-to-face inquiry was held before TPCC Discipline Committee Chairman Mallu Ravi into the audio call controversy involving Shabbir Ali, which was the primary trigger for this dispute. Having received a notice from the committee, Shabbir Ali appeared at the party’s state headquarters Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday. He made it clear to the committee that he has no connection whatsoever with the audio tapes circulating on social media, and that the voice in them is not his. He explained that political rivals had conspiratorially fabricated the audio to damage his reputation.
On the other side, Indupriyas and her husband Chandrasekhar Reddy — who had already filed a complaint with the District SP alleging that Shabbir Ali made indecent remarks about them — also appeared before the Discipline Committee and submitted digital evidence they had gathered. This meeting took on particular significance against the backdrop of the high command expressing serious displeasure that such internal disputes becoming public while the Congress party is in power in the state was handing ammunition to opponents and damaging the party’s image.
After hearing both sides, Discipline Committee Chairman Mallu Ravi issued stern warnings to leaders of both factions. He made clear that it is entirely unacceptable for party leaders to go running to police stations or publicly criticise each other over internal party matters. He warned that if anyone behaves in a manner that brings disrepute to the party in the constituency, disciplinary action will be inevitable. He firmly advised that any grievance must be brought to the attention of the party high command rather than being aired publicly.
With the Discipline Committee’s guidance and the intervention of senior leaders, the Kamareddy Congress dispute has finally been settled. Shabbir Ali and Chandrasekhar Reddy shook hands, agreed to set aside their personal differences, and committed to working together to strengthen the party. Both leaders jointly declared that they would forget past incidents and remain committed to consolidating the Congress party in the constituency.
With this compromise formula, the Kamareddy Congress controversy — which had kept everyone in suspense for several days — has been brought to a temporary halt. With the two key leaders now on the same page, a fresh sense of enthusiasm has taken hold among Congress workers in the Kamareddy constituency. However, Mallu Ravi told the media that technical aspects of the Shabbir Ali audio tape matter and the next steps would be discussed more thoroughly at forthcoming committee meetings.
