HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Lake Protection and Development Authority (HYDRA) has resumed its demolition drive against illegal constructions around lakes in the city. On Friday, the task force began demolishing unauthorized structures at Lake View Villas in Neknampur, Manikonda. The demolitions are being carried out under the orders of HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath, following reports of encroachments on the Neknampur lake.
HYDRA officials received complaints from locals regarding illegal constructions on lake lands. Upon inspection, it was confirmed that several buildings were erected within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of the lake. Despite three previous demolition attempts by officials from the Revenue Department, GHMC, and HMDA, the illegal structures were rebuilt, prompting HYDRA to take strict action once again.
A heavy police presence was deployed at the site to ensure smooth execution of the demolition. The task force reiterated its commitment to protecting Hyderabad’s water bodies, emphasizing that the preservation of lakes remains its top priority.

In line with its efforts to restore lakes in Hyderabad, HYDRA has initiated a pilot project to develop four lakes in the city. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these lakes have already been prepared, with the aim of transforming Hyderabad back into a “Lake City.”
Earlier this week, HYDRA demolished an eight-story building in Madhapur’s Ayyappa Society that was being reconstructed despite prior demolition. The building had been razed previously for violating regulations, but the owners resumed construction in defiance of court orders. Acting on complaints, HYDRA officials intervened and demolished the structure again.
HYDRA is also working to address grievances related to lake and nala encroachments within a 10-day timeframe. The task force is focusing on handling complaints meticulously to avoid legal hurdles and is determined to ensure that no further encroachments occur. Officials stated that all grievances would be addressed in a structured manner to safeguard the city’s lakes from unauthorized occupations.
