Political circles in Telangana are abuzz with speculation of an imminent “political bomb” set to explode on Diwali, reportedly targeting key political figures. Sources suggest that the Raj Bhavan has already been notified of developments, with former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) likely to face the first impact. This follows a revived investigation into the Formula E car race funding controversy, as municipal officials recently lodged a formal complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), calling for a probe into the alleged misallocation of Rs. 55 crore.
Under KTR’s previous leadership, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department reportedly paid Rs. 55 crore to the race’s organizing entity, bypassing board and finance department clearances. Former Commissioner Arvind Kumar has already addressed this payment, following a decision by the Revanth Reddy-led administration to cancel the race, citing concerns over fund transfers. The administration alleges that the funds were issued irregularly to a foreign firm, putting KTR, the then-MAUD minister, under the spotlight. Talk of possible arrest has heightened tensions.
Ponguleti Hints at “Political Bombshell” Ahead of Diwali
During a recent Seoul visit, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy sparked public interest by predicting imminent political upheavals within Telangana, hinting at action within days. Though many anticipated announcements post-cabinet meeting on October 26 regarding corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, power procurement irregularities, and phone tapping incidents, no statements were made. Now, with renewed focus on the Formula E case, the ACB’s aggressive pursuit is being viewed by many as the anticipated “political bomb” Ponguleti hinted at.
