Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old realtor, was allegedly murdered on June 18 by his fiancée Sia Goyal and her lover Chetan Chaudhary at Lohagad Fort near Pune. The two allegedly pushed him into a valley because Sia was unwilling to go ahead with their November wedding. Rescue team member Sunil Gaikwad, who recovered the body, revealed that Ketan’s head was completely shattered and his limbs bore severe injuries. The team spent two hours navigating dense forest before handing over the body to an ambulance at 1:30 PM. Shockingly, Sia reportedly showed no emotion whatsoever while the body was being recovered.
Digital evidence collected by police has exposed the scale of the conspiracy. Over 2,000 phone calls totalling approximately 238 hours were made between Sia and Chetan since January this year. Both had deleted their WhatsApp and Instagram chats, which forensic experts are now working to recover. Investigators also established that the two met at a café in Pune’s Lullunagar area on June 17 — the day before the murder — and spent an hour planning the act.
Sia’s brother Sahil Goyal told police that Chetan and Sia first met at his cricket matches and grew closer at a mutual friend’s Diwali party last year. He stated the family would have called off the wedding had Sia expressed unwillingness. Sia’s mother Pooja Goyal said her daughter never showed dissatisfaction about the marriage and that she had never met Chetan. Sia’s lawyer, however, maintains that Chetan was merely a friend.
Lonavala Division DSP Gajanan Tompe officially confirmed that the roles of both accused are clearly established and that evidence strongly points to a premeditated murder. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the act and assured full government support to the victim’s family. The state government has appointed prominent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam as Special Public Prosecutor to expedite the trial and ensure stringent punishment for the accused.
