A powerful explosion near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday left one person dead and four others seriously injured, triggering heightened tension along the border. The blast occurred near ‘Asha Post’ in the Gulmarg police station area, in close proximity to the LoC. Security forces and local police rushed to the site immediately upon hearing the explosion and launched rescue operations.

The deceased has been identified as Jabir Ahmad Bajad, a resident of the Chandusa area in Baramulla district. The four injured were swiftly evacuated by security forces to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

Authorities have intensified their investigation into the cause of the explosion. Preliminary assessments suggest that the deceased may have accidentally touched or disturbed an old bomb shell lying in the area, triggering the blast. Forensic evidence is being collected to confirm the exact nature of the explosive material involved.

In the wake of the incident, security forces along the Line of Control have been placed on high alert with surveillance significantly stepped up as a precautionary measure.
