Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received an official invitation to join the proposed “Board of Peace,” an international body initiated by US President Donald Trump to oversee peace-building efforts in Gaza and monitor post-war conditions. President Trump personally wrote to Prime Minister Modi extending the invitation.

Since assuming office, President Trump has undertaken active diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring peace in West Asia. As part of a 20-point Gaza peace plan, he has proposed the formation of the Board of Peace to supervise Gaza’s reconstruction and post-conflict administration. Trump will chair the board.

Contents of Trump’s letter:
In his letter to Prime Minister Modi, President Trump stated that it would be an honor to have India participate in the initiative, describing it as a major effort to ensure lasting peace in West Asia and to address broader global conflicts. The letter was shared on social media on Monday (January 19, 2026) by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.

About the Board of Peace:
The Board of Peace is tasked with:

Overseeing the reconstruction of war-affected Gaza.
Monitoring governance through a temporary Technocratic Committee following the end of Hamas rule.
Mobilising international funding and investments for development and rehabilitation.

Other invited nations:
Along with India, Pakistan has also been invited to join the board. Pakistan has confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a similar letter. Invitations have reportedly been extended to more than 10 other countries, including Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Argentina, Hungary, and Albania.

India’s role:
Citing India’s strong and balanced relations with both Israel and Arab nations, the US sees New Delhi as a key stakeholder in the peace process. India has already extended significant humanitarian assistance to Gaza. However, the Ministry of External Affairs has not yet issued an official response to the invitation. Reports suggesting a possible requirement of a USD 1 billion contribution for board membership are circulating, though no formal clarification has been provided so far.
