The Telangana government has announced a major decision to clear encroachments along the Musi River. Dana Kishore, Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation, confirmed that the unauthorized structures would be removed soon.
Speaking to the media, Kishore stated, “As part of the Musi River beautification project, we have identified approximately 1,600 unauthorized constructions by private individuals through a detailed survey. We have decided to remove these encroachments, and an action plan has been prepared by the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation. Following the directives of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, all displaced individuals will be provided double-bedroom houses as part of the resettlement plan. The state government has allocated 15,000 double-bedroom houses for families residing in the Musi riverbed and buffer zones.
District collectors have been directed to draft guidelines for the rehabilitation process concerning the unauthorized constructions on the riverbed. The removal of these structures will only commence after the allocation of housing to the displaced. Proposals for land acquisition and rehabilitation in the buffer zone have been submitted to the state government, and compensation will be paid according to legal provisions once approval is granted. Residents within the Musi River area are assured that all eligible individuals will receive proper resettlement.”
