New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice DY Chandrachud made significant remarks regarding the judiciary’s functioning, expressing the public’s frustration with court policies. Speaking at the conclusion of a week-long special Lok Adalat event organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court, he emphasized the need for speedy resolutions.”People are fed up with the process of courts. They want immediate solutions,” Justice Chandrachud stated, highlighting the urgent demand for more efficient judicial procedures.
He acknowledged the collaborative effort in establishing the Lok Adalat, noting the support from both bar and bench members. A bench consisting of two bar members and two lawyers has been formed to involve lawyers directly in the Lok Adalat process, aiming to make them active partners in delivering justice.
Justice Chandrachud reiterated the primary goal of Lok Adalats: to ensure justice is accessible to the people and to reduce the backlog of cases. He described Lok Adalats as platforms designed to amicably resolve or reconcile disputes and cases that are pending in courts or at the pre-litigation stage, thereby easing the burden on the judicial system and providing quicker resolutions for the public.
