Actor Prakash Raj has found himself at the centre of a major controversy following his remarks on the Ramayana, which have triggered legal action and widespread criticism. TTD Board member Bhanu Prakash Reddy has issued a legal notice to the actor, alleging that his speech at a literary event in Kerala hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and disrespected the faith of millions of devotees.
According to the notice, Prakash Raj’s comments were deliberate and had the potential to create religious discord. The legal notice has demanded that the actor issue a public apology, failing which a defamation case seeking ₹100 crore in damages would be initiated against him.
The controversy gained momentum after the actor’s speech at the Kerala Literature Festival went viral on social media, drawing sharp reactions from various quarters. The remarks have sparked protests and strong objections from several groups, who have accused him of mocking sacred texts and mythological beliefs.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that criminal cases have already been registered against Prakash Raj in Kerala and Delhi in connection with the statements. Law enforcement agencies are expected to examine the context and intent of the speech as the matter continues to escalate at the national level.
In his address, Prakash Raj reportedly made a satirical reference to characters from the Ramayana, blending mythological elements with modern-day concepts such as GST and billing. The comments have drawn strong condemnation from sections of society, with the issue now evolving into a major controversy involving legal, political, and public reactions.
