Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative titled “Project Freedom” aimed at ensuring the safe passage of foreign commercial vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that several ships belonging to countries not involved in the ongoing conflict have become stuck in the strategically sensitive waterway. He said these nations had formally requested U.S. assistance to help secure the safe movement of their vessels out of the region.
Responding to these requests, Trump said the United States would provide navigational and operational support to guide the stranded ships safely through the strait. He described the initiative as a humanitarian effort intended to assist civilian maritime traffic amid rising regional instability.
The operation, named “Project Freedom,” is scheduled to commence on Monday morning (West Asia time), according to the announcement. Trump also warned that any attempt to obstruct the mission would be met with force, underscoring the seriousness of the initiative.
He further noted that U.S. representatives are engaged in constructive discussions with Iran and expressed optimism that the ongoing diplomatic engagement would yield positive outcomes for all stakeholders involved.
