Gurugram: In a shocking incident that has triggered nationwide outrage, 25-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav in Gurugram, Haryana. The accused allegedly used his licensed revolver to commit the crime, which he later admitted to during police questioning. Deepak has been placed in 14-day judicial custody as investigations into the motive continue.
Family members have now revealed that Deepak is deeply remorseful for his actions. His brother Vijay Yadav told media that Deepak broke down at the police station, urging officers to “file an FIR that warrants hanging.” “He was inconsolable, saying he had killed his own daughter,” Vijay said.
Multiple angles are emerging in the case. While some media reports suggest that the murder was triggered by Radhika’s alleged taunts over her father’s financial dependence, close acquaintances of the family contest this, attributing the conflict to personal and professional disagreements. Radhika’s decision to run a tennis academy, which Deepak reportedly opposed, is believed to have caused prolonged tension. He had allegedly requested she shut down the academy, which she refused, citing her significant investment of nearly ₹2 crore in her sports career.
Investigators are also looking into additional factors, including Radhika’s active presence on social media and the family’s internal dynamics. The incident has reignited conversations about intergenerational conflict, mental health, and gender dynamics in Indian households.
