Fresh geopolitical tensions have emerged over Greenland following controversial remarks by an Iranian official, who claimed that Iran is prepared to “protect” the Arctic territory from the United States. The statement comes in the backdrop of earlier comments by Donald Trump regarding potential efforts to acquire Greenland, which had already sparked international debate.
In a sharp response, the Iranian official alleged that Trump had initially pressured European nations over Greenland before attempting negotiations and later issuing threats to take control of the island. The official further suggested that if European Union countries are unable to safeguard Greenland, they could seek assistance from Iran, adding that Tehran is willing to intervene if necessary.
Earlier this year, Trump’s proposal to acquire Greenland was firmly rejected by Denmark, which made it clear that the territory is not for sale. The disagreement had led to diplomatic tensions, including warnings of additional tariffs on EU nations, although the stance was later softened. The latest remarks from Iran have once again brought Greenland into the global spotlight, highlighting its strategic importance.
