The first case under India’s newly implemented criminal laws has been registered in Telangana. These new criminal and judicial laws took effect nationwide from midnight on Sunday. The initial case under the new act was actually recorded in Madhya Pradesh at 12:20 AM, followed closely by the first case in Telangana at the Charminar police station.
In Telangana, the police registered a case against a two-wheeler rider traveling without a number plate. The FIR was filed digitally under Section 281 BNS and the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, as per the new regulations.
The 17th Lok Sabha had approved the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS), and The Bharatiya Sanstha Adhiniyam (BSA) to replace the long-standing IPC and CrPC from the British era. These laws came into effect from July 1 at midnight. The new laws introduce modern methods such as zero FIR, online complaint registration without needing to visit a police station, and the issuance of summons through electronic media like SMS.
