Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday launched the state’s new Sports Policy 2025 during the Telangana Sports Conclave at HICC, Hyderabad. The Chief Minister emphasized that the policy is aimed at empowering youth, curbing drug addiction, and enabling Telangana to compete globally in sports.
Revanth Reddy said previous governments lacked a proper sports framework, leading to urban youth being diverted from productive paths. The policy, developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, seeks to reduce political interference and focus on nurturing sporting talent. The state has formed a dedicated board comprising successful corporates, medal-winning athletes, and experienced sports administrators to oversee sports universities, academies, and infrastructure development.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s rich legacy of athletes such as Azharuddin, VVS Laxman, Siraj, Nikhat Zareen, and Deepti Sharma, the Chief Minister called India’s low Olympic medal tally a national concern. Telangana has signed several MoUs with international sports organizations and has requested the Union Government to host Khelo India 2026 in the state. The policy is part of the government’s long-term vision document, Telangana Rising 2047.
