The Election Commission (EC) of Telangana has announced the schedule for the upcoming MLC (Member of Legislative Council) elections in the state. The elections will take place for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduate Constituency and the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ MLC seats. Voting is scheduled for February 27, with the counting of votes on March 3. The official notification for the elections will be released on February 3, and nominations will be accepted from the same day.

The EC has stated that the election code will be in effect until March 8, impacting the implementation of new schemes across the state. The election code will apply in all joint districts except Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Mahabubnagar. In the remaining seven joint districts, the election code will be enforced for 40 days, leading to a halt on the launch of new schemes and foundation stone ceremonies. However, previously announced programs can proceed, although the announcement of new beneficiaries, such as for ration cards, will be suspended.
The government has already finalized beneficiaries for several schemes, but cash transfers or payments to these beneficiaries will not take place during the election period. The imposition of the election code also raises concerns over the implementation of programs like Indiramma houses, ration cards, and Indiramma Atheemeya Bharosa before the elections. While the selection of beneficiaries for Indiramma Atheemeya Bharosa is almost complete, cash deposits into beneficiaries’ accounts have been postponed. Discussions are ongoing regarding whether the government will proceed with these schemes prior to the elections.
