Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to discontinue its workload management policy to ensure consistent performances from Team India. The policy, which allowed star players to skip certain series or matches for rest, is likely to be phased out following extensive discussions within the board.
According to sources, centrally contracted and regular multi-format players will no longer have the discretion to choose matches. The selection committee will decide player participation while ensuring adequate rest to manage fitness levels.
The move comes after the recent England Test series, where pacer Jasprit Bumrah played only three matches, while Mohammed Siraj bowled 185.3 overs across all five games. Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar had also suggested scrapping the policy. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, selectors, and senior BCCI officials are said to support the proposed change, which is expected to be implemented in upcoming series.
