Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has raised serious concerns ahead of the National Open Ranking Tournament scheduled to be held in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. The event is considered crucial for selection into the 2026 Asian Games, and Vinesh is set to compete in the 57 kg category.

She alleged that there could be a risk to her safety and that of her team members during the competition. Vinesh warned that if any untoward incident occurs, the Indian government would be held fully responsible.

The wrestler also expressed apprehension over the venue, stating that the tournament is being conducted in Gonda, a region seen as a stronghold of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. She suggested that his supporters and close associates could attempt to influence the proceedings.

Vinesh further alleged the possibility of biased officiating and manipulation of results, claiming that athletes have already suffered due to Brij Bhushan in the past. She said there is a risk of transparency being compromised in the conduct of the tournament.

Calling for fair play and neutrality, Vinesh demanded strict measures to ensure impartial conduct of the event. She also urged authorities to deploy adequate media presence and sports officials at the venue to monitor proceedings and safeguard both athlete security and competition integrity.
