Indian Test captain Shubman Gill delivered a historic performance in the second Test against England, scoring a double century in the first innings off 311 deliveries. His innings not only powered India into a strong position but also saw him rewrite multiple records.
Gill is now the highest-scoring Indian captain in a Test innings against England, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s 179 at Old Trafford in 1990. He also became only the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to score a double century in overseas Test cricket.
In another significant milestone, Gill became the first Asian captain to register centuries in all four SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. His landmark knock is being hailed as one of the finest by an Indian skipper in challenging overseas conditions.
