Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana on Monday clarified that the state government has not yet taken any final decision regarding fresh land pooling or acquisition for Amaravati’s expansion.
Addressing reports suggesting the government plans to acquire over 40,000 acres, the minister stated that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed that an international airport be constructed on 5,000 acres. He said land is essential for the project, but no conclusive decision has been made on the method of land procurement.
Narayana added that several MLAs have expressed concerns that acquisition could lead to losses for farmers. He emphasized that land pooling would be more beneficial and that many farmers are inclined toward that option. If land is taken through pooling, farmers would receive returnable plots, while the remaining area would be used for roads, drains, and other infrastructure. He estimated that approximately 30,000 acres would be required for the airport through land pooling, with an additional few thousand acres needed for infrastructure, leaving only 5,000 acres as surplus.
The minister reiterated that no decision has been finalized yet on whether land acquisition or land pooling would be adopted for the airport.

CRDA Allocated Land for Gravel Supply
Earlier in the day, Minister Narayana inspected gravel quarries in Ananthavaram and briefed the media. He said that the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has been allocated 851 acres by the Mines Department for gravel supply. Ananthavaram Hill, previously designated for this purpose, was excavated to a depth of eight meters during the previous government. A drone survey is being undertaken to verify the extent of past excavation. He noted that the government is also evaluating potential use of unutilized land in the area.
Amaravati Construction to Be Completed in Three Years
The minister confirmed that Amaravati’s development has resumed in full swing and outlined a phased construction plan. Housing for government officials will be completed in one year, trunk roads in 18 months, layout roads in two and a half years, and iconic buildings in three years.
Narayana said tenders have been finalized for 68 works worth ₹42,360 crore, and the execution of these projects is already underway. He criticized the previous administration for halting capital construction and failing to cancel old tenders, which led to legal complications that took nearly eight months to resolve.
