New Delhi: Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is currently under the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with authorities enforcing heightened security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Officials are maintaining constant surveillance on Rana and are expected to extract key information during the course of interrogation.
Following his extradition from the United States, Rana was brought to India on Thursday night, with the flight landing in Delhi. He was subsequently produced before the Special Judge at Patiala House Court by NIA officials, who sought a 20-day custodial remand. The court granted 18 days of custody, during which Rana is being interrogated.

Rana is being held in a secure 14×14-foot room on the ground floor of the NIA building located in the CGO Complex, Delhi. The room is equipped with CCTV cameras for 24/7 monitoring and a digital security system. A floor bed has been arranged, and the room includes an attached bathroom. Food, drinking water, and medical assistance are being provided inside the room itself.
Entry to the detention area is strictly restricted, with only 12 authorised NIA personnel permitted access. Heavy deployment of security forces has been made in and around the CGO Complex in view of the high-profile nature of the case.
Rana’s custody is expected to play a critical role in uncovering further details related to the 26/11 attacks and any associated networks.
