Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL) has established connections with all political entities, including the BRS, BJP, and Congress. Known for aligning with parties in power, Megha has worked closely with the BRS in Telangana over the past decade to secure major projects like Kaleshwaram, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy, and Mission Bhagiratha. Recently, MEIL has moved closer to the newly elected Congress government, securing the Rs 1,126.23 crore Narayanpet-Kodangal Second Package.
Additionally, Megha contributed Rs 200 crore under CSR towards the Skill University in Fourth City, Telangana. The tendency for ruling parties to award major contracts to Megha, and opposition parties to criticize this practice, has become a recurring theme. Megha’s management has reportedly cultivated relations with both ruling and opposition parties alike, enhancing its national and state-level project portfolio.
Previously, Megha contributed Rs 966 crore through electoral bonds to nine political parties across India, including the BJP, BRS, and Congress, highlighting the company’s multi-party outreach strategy.
From Local Roots to Global Reach
Founded in 1989 as a small fabrication unit, Megha Engineering grew into a major enterprise in agriculture, water supply, infrastructure, and renewable energy projects. By 2000, Megha had expanded across India, now employing over 40,000 staff members and working on projects in 20 countries. In the previous fiscal year, the company achieved a turnover of Rs 31,766 crore. Megha’s rapid ascent in the last decade included high-profile projects under the BRS government in Telangana, such as Kaleshwaram, Mission Bhagiratha, and the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy projects.
In 2020, Forbes listed the family of Megha Krishna Reddy at 45th in its “India’s Richest” list, attributing much of its wealth growth to projects valued over Rs 1 lakh crore in Telangana, such as Kaleshwaram and Mission Bhagiratha.
Securing Projects Through Political Ties
Megha’s major project acquisitions have often been attributed to political backing. After Telangana’s formation, the BRS government awarded numerous key projects to Megha, including the Kaleshwaram, Mission Bhagiratha, and the Rs 52,000 crore Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project, as well as the Rs 2,215 crore Sunkisala project. Megha completed 80% of Kaleshwaram’s work, constructing nearly 20 pump houses, and took over Palamuru-Ranga Reddy from Navayuga after the BRS government transferred the contract.
Megha also secured projects under the BJP-led central government, such as the prestigious Zojila Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, despite competition from experienced firms like L&T and IRCON International. The company has successfully acquired projects in multiple states, including Polavaram and Rayalaseema Lift schemes in Andhra Pradesh, the Kunda Hydro Power Project in Tamil Nadu, the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway in Maharashtra, PM Kusum Solar Power Plants, a gas pipeline project in Rajasthan, and water supply initiatives in Uttar Pradesh.

Record Contributions to Parties in Power
From 2014 to 2024, Megha’s electoral bonds benefitted political parties awarding it large projects. Following Future Gaming and Hotel Services, Megha has purchased the highest value of electoral bonds, donating Rs 966 crore across parties, with the BJP receiving 60% (Rs 584 crore) and the BRS securing Rs 195 crore. In Tamil Nadu, Megha donated RS 85 crore to the ruling DMK, Rs 37 crore to YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh, and Rs 18 crore to Congress at the national level, prompting allegations that its large donations were rewards for contracts.
New Focus on Telangana’s Congress Government
Following the recent Congress victory in Telangana, Megha has continued its strategy of aligning with ruling parties, aiming for further project acquisitions. Alongside a Rs 5 crore donation for flood relief, Megha allocated Rs 200 crore under CSR for constructing buildings in the Skill University. On September 14, tenders for the Rs 2,260.85 crore Kodangal-Narayanpet project were finalized, with Megha winning the Rs 1,126.23 crore second package contract.
Amid shifting political tides, Congress leaders who previously criticized Megha’s dealings with the BRS have remained silent, while BRS leaders now question Megha’s latest projects under Congress. Despite political debates, Megha Engineering aims to achieve a Rs 1 lakh crore turnover, leveraging its close ties with ruling parties nationwide.
