The U.S. government is ramping up its efforts against illegal immigrants, with another significant deportation operation underway. In the latest move, the U.S. is set to send back 487 Indian students, continuing its recent trend of deporting Indian nationals.
Discussions between the U.S. and India on standard operating procedures (SOPs) for deportations have already taken place, according to U.S. officials. The deportation of Indian nationals with handcuffs has raised concerns, prompting India to request the U.S. to handle deportations more respectfully. In response, the U.S. is expected to issue state-level guidelines for deportations soon.

This follows earlier actions by the Trump administration, which deported 100 Indian students. As per U.S. Homeland Security data, 20,407 Indian nationals were found to be residing in the U.S. without proper documentation. Out of these, 17,940 individuals have been ordered for deportation, and 2,467 are currently under enforcement and removal operations. The deportations are being carried out in stages.
