Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced the issuance of new ration cards and the distribution of fine rice to beneficiaries, starting from Ugadi. The state administration has alleged that the previous government failed to issue new ration cards or update additional family members in existing ones.
In response to public demand, the government has decided to provide ration cards to all eligible individuals and introduce fine rice distribution. Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, during the recent budget session, stated that the process of issuing new ration cards and updating family details began on January 26. The government has allocated Rs 5,734 crore to the Civil Supplies Department for this initiative.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will officially launch the fine rice distribution program on Ugadi. From April 1, all ration shops across the state will replace regular rice with fine rice. Each beneficiary will receive six kilograms of fine rice per registered family member. Telangana currently has 91,19,268 ration cards covering 2,82,77,859 beneficiaries.
The formal launch event will take place in Huzurnagar, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy will oversee the distribution. While the government initially planned to implement the scheme in January, it opted to proceed after issuing new ration cards. However, as deliberations on the issuance process continue, the government has decided to begin fine rice distribution for existing ration cardholders.
