Hyderabad: The Telangana government has initiated a fresh drive to streamline the application process for ration cards, aiming to ensure welfare benefits reach all eligible citizens. The move is expected to benefit low-income and middle-class families who rely on the Public Distribution System (PDS).
As per the Civil Supplies Department, applicants can now submit fresh ration card applications at any MeeSeva center across the state. Though many citizens had earlier submitted applications during the “Praja Palana” program, officials are now recommending that all applicants—new or existing—resubmit their applications through MeeSeva to ensure accurate processing and timely issuance.
Application and Verification Process
To apply, citizens must visit MeeSeva centers, fill out the designated application form, and upload supporting documents such as Aadhaar cards and proof of address in PDF format. The submitted applications will be verified at the field level by officials. If found eligible, ration cards will be approved and dispatched.
Officials also clarified that incomplete applications or missing documentation could lead to rejections. Those seeking corrections or additions—such as inclusion of new family members—are also required to provide relevant documents.
Card Distribution and Expansion
Authorities have already issued ration cards to approved applicants who applied up to June. New applications are being accepted and processed on a rolling basis. Currently, Telangana has approximately 89 lakh active ration cards. The government plans to issue an additional 95 lakh new cards, targeting a total of 1.84 crore beneficiaries under the revised PDS coverage. Officials reiterated that there is no deadline for submission, and eligible families can apply at their convenience.
