New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort on Independence Day and addressed the nation, outlining key initiatives in taxation and youth development. He announced that the government will introduce changes in the GST system ahead of Diwali to reduce prices of essential commodities, acknowledging that the current GST structure has increased costs for ordinary citizens. Modi said the government is committed to simplifying GST and easing the tax burden, with decisions expected soon following consultations at the GST Council.

In his address, Modi also launched the “Pradhan Mantri Vikasit Bharat” scheme, allocating Rs 1 lakh crore for youth development. Under the programme, first-time employees will receive Rs 15,000 per month, while companies creating employment opportunities will receive government incentives. Highlighting India’s journey toward self-reliance, the Prime Minister noted that a country that once faced food shortages is now a global exporter.
He emphasized that India is advancing self-sufficiency across all sectors and announced that Made-in-India semiconductor chips will soon enter the market, citing Operation Sindoor as an example of India’s growing manufacturing and defence capabilities.
