The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary (CS) and Director General of Police (DGP) concerning the recent attack on the Collector and other officials in Lagacherla. The NHRC has directed them to submit a report within two weeks. Additionally, the Commission has decided to send a team to Laggacherla to conduct an investigation following complaints of harassment of villagers and the filing of false cases.
The incident occurred on November 11 when the Collector and other officials convened a meeting regarding land acquisition for a pharmaceutical company. During the meeting, some farmers requested discussions with the villagers, which led to an unexpected attack on the officials. The attackers also damaged official vehicles using large stones.

In response to the attack, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was transferred, and several arrests were made, including former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narendra Reddy and several farmers. There are concerns regarding the negligence of local police and intelligence agencies, which contributed to the escalation of the situation. Investigations revealed that a week prior to the incident, some individuals had held meetings in the village, inciting tensions.
The primary accused, Suresh, was arrested by the police and presented before the Kodangal Magistrate. The NHRC has given a two-week deadline for the report, which is expected to provide further clarity on the incident.
