West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a sensational announcement, stating that she is ready to resign from her position if necessary to ensure justice in the Kolkata junior doctor’s assault and murder case. Facing criticism over her government’s handling of the incident, Mamata declared that her primary concern is justice, not holding onto her position as Chief Minister.

The protests surrounding the tragic incident have continued across the state, with negotiations between the government and junior doctors remaining at a standstill. For the past three days, the doctors have refused to attend the government’s discussion meetings, demanding a live broadcast of the negotiations. However, government officials have indicated that such a demand could pose legal complications.

Amid escalating tensions, Mamata Banerjee reiterated her commitment to justice, highlighting her willingness to step down if it would help. She also noted that she had waited for two hours on Thursday to meet the doctors but received no response. The Chief Minister clarified that, while a live broadcast of the discussions is not possible, arrangements have been made to record the meetings, and the footage will be shared with the doctors after receiving Supreme Court approval. She further emphasized that, despite repeated attempts for discussions, the ongoing strike by doctors has affected around 700,000 patients and caused 27 deaths. She assured that no action would be taken against the protesting doctors, stating, “We are elders, and we will forgive them.” This statement has sparked significant political debate in West Bengal.
