The state government has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive family survey aimed at enhancing social, economic, educational, employment, and political opportunities for BCs, SCs, STs, and other marginalized groups. The decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on February 4.
Survey to be Completed in 60 Days
Following approval from the Legislative Assembly, the government has issued directives to conduct a state-wide door-to-door family survey, with a 60-day deadline for completion. Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari recently issued Government Order 18, assigning the Planning Department as the nodal agency responsible for overseeing the process.
As part of this initiative, the BC Commission has started preparations for a comprehensive caste census. The newly formed commission has expedited the process, reviewing caste census studies and methodologies from other states, including the one conducted in Bihar. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, during a recent meeting with the BC Commission, directed that the caste survey be launched without delay.
BC Commission Chairman Niranjan noted the lack of necessary resources to carry out the survey. In response, the Chief Minister instructed the Planning Department to collaborate with the BC Commission to ensure the survey is completed within the 60-day timeframe. He also confirmed that local body elections would follow the survey’s completion. Following this directive, the caste survey has gained momentum, and new orders have been issued, drawing positive responses from BC associations.
