CM Revanth Reddy Calls Emergency Review, Warns Officials Against Complacency Amid Heavy Rains

With heavy rains lashing Telangana and the threat of natural calamities looming large, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy convened an emergency review meeting with senior officials on Sunday, issuing sharp directives to ensure public safety and demanding strict accountability from field-level officers. The CM expressed strong displeasure over the failure of officials to act effectively during the rains on June 9, despite clear advance instructions having been issued at a review meeting held as early as June 1.

Revanth Reddy specifically criticised the near-total absence of coordination between municipal and police officials in critical areas during the rainfall. He directed that future monsoon preparedness must be data-driven — with detailed mapping of waterlogging zones, accident-prone areas, and traffic congestion hotspots — to enable targeted and planned responses. He made it unequivocally clear that any disruption to public life caused by human error or official negligence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The Chief Minister warned that officials who remain seated in air-conditioned offices while rain wreaks havoc on the city will face strict disciplinary action. “From senior traffic officials down to the last constable on the ground, everyone must be out on the roads during heavy rain, managing the situation in real time. If needed, I will personally come out onto the streets myself,” he said. He also directed the electricity department to be on full alert, ensuring there are no power outages or accidents resulting from the rains.

Revanth Reddy warned that any traffic gridlock caused by rain in the city would invite severe consequences, and instructed officials to significantly strengthen traffic management systems. As part of this effort, he ordered the immediate filling of all vacant posts in the traffic department. He directed all government departments to remain on high alert and work in close coordination with each other throughout the monsoon season, ensuring they remain accessible and responsive to the public at all times.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Telangana for the next four days, issuing alerts for several districts. Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Nagarkurnool districts are among those likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming days. Weather officials noted that the southwest monsoon is currently advancing steadily and is expected to cover the entire state within the next four to five days.
