A deep tragedy has struck Andhra Pradesh politics, with TDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani passing away. He died of a heart attack at his residence in Vizag, at the age of 57. Nani had won three terms as MLA from Eluru. His full name was Alla Kalikrishna Srinivas. He contested as the YSRCP candidate from the Eluru assembly constituency in the 2019 assembly elections and won, subsequently serving as the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health and Family Welfare. Alla Nani was born on December 30, 1969, in Eluru to Alla Suryachandra Rao and Nagamani. He completed his tenth grade at KP High School in Eluru in 1985, and his intermediate education at Sir CRR College in 1988. He began pursuing a BA at Andhra University but left it midway.
Alla Nani contested from the Eluru assembly constituency on a Congress party ticket in the 1994 and 1999 undivided Andhra Pradesh assembly elections but lost both times. He became an MLA for the first time in 2004, defeating Telugu Desam Party candidate Ambika Krishna by a margin of 33,053 votes, and won again in 2009. He resigned from the Congress party in 2013 and joined the YSRCP. He was elected district president of the YSR Congress Party in 2014. He contested the Legislative Council elections in 2017 and was elected as an MLC under the MLA quota. Contesting as the YSRCP candidate from the Eluru assembly constituency in the 2019 assembly elections, he won as MLA and went on to serve as Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health and Family Welfare.
Alla Nani contested the 2024 assembly elections but lost, following which he resigned from his post as YSRCP district president and from the party’s primary membership on August 17, 2024. He joined the TDP on February 13, 2025.
