Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has issued a key statement regarding the accident at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel. He confirmed that the incident occurred due to water and mud seeping into the tunnel, leading to the collapse. Emergency rescue operations were launched immediately, and all accessible individuals inside the tunnel have been safely evacuated. However, the whereabouts of seven workers remain unknown, and efforts are underway to locate and rescue them.
To oversee the rescue operations, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao have departed for the site via helicopter. The accident occurred early this morning at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel, where approximately three meters of the tunnel’s ceiling collapsed. Reports indicate that the incident took place at the 14th-kilometer mark near Domalapenta at around 8:30 AM on Saturday. At least ten workers sustained injuries in the mishap.

Project Work Resumption and Incident Details
The government had recently resumed work on the project, aiming for its swift completion. Construction activity on the left-side tunnel restarted four days ago, and on Saturday morning, a section of the ceiling collapsed. Preliminary reports suggest that seven workers remain trapped inside. The accident occurred while work was underway near Domalapenta. Officials are currently inspecting the site, and the injured workers have been rushed to GENCO Hospital for treatment.
