An Amazon cargo aircraft was involved in an accident at Miami International Airport in the US state of Florida. The plane veered off the runway and crashed after losing control. The accident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon at 1:58 pm, killed five people and injured five others. Rescue teams reached the site immediately after the crash, and the five injured were taken to hospital.
Videos captured after the accident showed heavy smoke billowing from the aircraft. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials, over 60 emergency vehicles and around 200 firefighting personnel responded to the scene to carry out rescue operations. According to the US Federal Aviation Administration, Amazon Air Flight 7598 was attempting to land at Miami airport around 2 pm on Sunday when the aircraft ran off the runway during landing.
The aircraft was a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, which had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico. The FAA said an investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the crash. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the accident occurred as the plane was landing, and that the company was gathering full details on the incident.
Meanwhile, another plane crash occurred on Saturday in Fresno, California, killing two people and critically injuring two others. According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, a small single-engine aircraft was found engulfed in flames at an elevated location near the San Joaquin River. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and took measures to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.
A total of four people were aboard the small aircraft. Officials said two children among them died at the crash site, while the two adults sustained severe injuries and were taken to hospital in critical condition. The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the actual cause of the crash.
