New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the concerns raised by Telangana MPs during the Rajya Sabha discussion on the 2025 Budget. MP Renuka Chaudhary questioned the lack of substantial budgetary allocation for Telangana and accused the central government of failing to honor the commitments made during the state’s bifurcation. She claimed that Telangana had been deceived by the central government over the past decade, citing unfulfilled promises such as the establishment of the Bayyaram Steel Plant and the Horticulture University.
In her response, Sitharaman highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the central government for Telangana. She noted the allocation of Rs 5,337 crore for railway projects in the state, which includes the introduction of 500 new Bharat trains. Additionally, she emphasized the Cabinet’s approval for the establishment of an industrial corridor in Zaheerabad.
Sitharaman also detailed the establishment of the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal under the PM MITRA scheme, as well as the Sammakka Sarakka Tribal University. She further pointed out the revival of the Ramagundam Fertilizer Factory and the development of 40 railway stations across the state. Other notable initiatives included the establishment of the Turmeric Board in Nizamabad and the creation of 199 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Telangana.
The Finance Minister also mentioned the provision of 82 lakh Ayushman Bharat cards and the construction of 2 lakh houses under the PM Awas Yojana. She concluded by addressing Telangana’s financial situation, stating that while the state had a surplus budget at the time of bifurcation, it has accumulated significant debt over the past decade.
