Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi addressed the Lok Sabha for the first time, launching a strong critique against the central government. Speaking during a special discussion marking 75 years since the implementation of the Indian Constitution, she accused the Centre of attempting to undermine the Constitution over the past decade.
She referred to the Constitution as a “Suraksha Kavach” (a protective shield) for citizens and said, “The Constitution provides social, economic, and political assurance to the people of India. However, the ruling party is working to weaken reservations through privatization initiatives. The central government’s approach to caste enumeration is inappropriate.”

Priyanka Gandhi raised questions about past decisions, saying, “Rulers are questioning why Congress didn’t carry out caste enumeration earlier. Why focus on the past when we should address current issues? Every time we raise a matter, the central government refers to Nehru’s era. Are we to believe that the nation’s responsibility lies only with Nehru, irrespective of who is in power?”
She also targeted those who frequently reference Nehru, asking, “Can those who keep mentioning Nehru’s name explain what they have done for the nation?”
