The local uprising in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has intensified sharply, with people taking to the streets under the leadership of the Awami Action Committee against alleged atrocities by the Pakistan Army. Suppressing the growing public unrest has reportedly become an increasingly difficult challenge for the Pakistani government and military, as the movement continues to gain momentum by the day.
A purported Pakistani government document circulating widely on social media has claimed to expose the grim situation on the ground. According to the document, the PoK Home Department wrote to the federal government in Islamabad seeking urgent reinforcement, requesting the immediate deployment of 4,000 additional Federal Constabulary personnel along with seven full wings of Pakistan Rangers. The request reportedly specified that half of these forces be deployed with advanced weapons and heavy ammunition in a combat-ready capacity, while the remaining half be equipped with anti-riot gear — suggesting a plan to suppress the protest movement through force.
The leaked document, dated July 8, 2026, reportedly acknowledges that Pakistani authorities are facing serious difficulty due to the protests led by the Awami Action Committee. It claims that four Pakistani security personnel have died and 174 have been seriously injured in the clashes so far, and states that law and order in PoK has completely collapsed.
Separately, reports point to friction between local PoK police and Pakistan Rangers, the country’s central security force. PoK police are said to be refusing orders from the Rangers to crack down on local protesters, reportedly due to sympathy with the local population. This breakdown of trust between the two forces, including reported confrontations during joint operations, has become a significant challenge for the Pakistani government.
