The Bihar government has decided to dismiss over 3,000 teachers who secured government jobs using fake degrees and forged certificates. The decision was announced by state Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, who confirmed that action was being taken against those found to have obtained employment through fraudulent means.
Ahead of the crackdown, the state Vigilance Bureau conducted an extensive investigation, thoroughly examining teacher recruitments made between 2006 and 2015. The inquiry found that many of the accused had created fake certificates in the name of non-existent educational institutions and secured government jobs using forged documents. Based on the findings of this investigation, criminal cases have already been registered against several of the erring teachers.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Tiwari said the Education Department had been directed to take strict action against all individuals who obtained jobs through fraudulent practices. He clarified that the vigilance investigation was carried out on the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and stressed that neither the central government nor the Bihar government would offer any exemptions in matters of corruption.
Beyond dismissal from service, the government announced that the affected teachers would also face departmental disciplinary action. Minister Tiwari further stated that salaries and other allowances drawn by these teachers during their tenure would be recovered in full, along with applicable interest.
Officials also revealed that some teachers, anticipating the outcome of the investigation, had resigned from their positions before the inquiry was completed. However, authorities clarified that these individuals would not be spared either, and legal action would be initiated against them as well.
