In recent developments, battalion constables and their spouses in Telangana have been actively protesting for the implementation of the “One Police” system. In response to these demonstrations, the state government has made a notable decision regarding the Telangana Special Police (TSP) constables. The constables stationed near Chief Minister Revanth’s residence have been relieved of their duties amid concerns that they might join the protests at any moment. Furthermore, TSP constables have also been removed from security responsibilities near the DGP office and the U.S. consulate.
Precautionary Measures Issued
To ensure security in these areas, special police units have been deployed. In addition, higher officials have issued a memo cautioning the protesting battalion constables near the Secretariat against engaging in unnecessary issues and discouraging the use of WhatsApp groups for communication under the Chief Security Office’s name. The memo emphasized that any misconduct would lead to departmental action.
Suspension of 39 Constables
The protests calling for the “One Police” policy have gained significant attention across the state. In light of these events, the Telangana Police Department has invoked Article 311 against those leading the protests while still in service, resulting in the suspension of 39 members of the TSP.
Currently, Telangana has 13 battalions, each comprising up to 1,000 personnel, including officers and staff. The police department regularly recruits for civil, armed reserve (AR), and special police divisions. Civil police personnel are responsible for monitoring public safety, investigating crimes, identifying offenders, and reducing crime rates, while armed reserve police manage law enforcement duties. TSP personnel focus on maintaining public order and are frequently deployed to other states during elections.
TSP constables have voiced concerns over being overworked, stating that their leave requests are often disregarded and that they face frequent transfers every two to three months. They continue to demand the implementation of the “One Police” system.
