Imphal, Manipur: Kuki militants have resumed their violent activities in Manipur, targeting the village of Nongchuppi, situated 229 kilometers from the state capital, Imphal. The recent assault resulted in the death of a 63-year-old man, Yurumbam Kulendra Singh.
Following the attack, clashes broke out between armed groups from the Meitei community and Kuki militants, leading to five additional casualties. In response, police forces intervened and engaged in counterfire, successfully regaining control and containing the militant activities.
According to Imphal police, the Kuki militants have been actively attacking various locations since yesterday, including the borders of Bishnupur and Churachandpur. In retaliation, police have destroyed two bunkers previously occupied by militants.
A meeting was convened in Jiribam with security commanders and leaders from the Meitei and Hmar communities to discuss peace efforts. Despite these efforts, Kuki groups have opposed the initiatives, resulting in further attacks today.
