On Friday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu announced that a report on the flood damage will be submitted to the central government by the end of the day. Chandrababu outlined that an initial preliminary report would be followed by a detailed comprehensive report. He also confirmed that water supply services have been restored in flood-affected areas and that electricity has been reestablished in many regions, though some delays are expected due to residual water.
Chandrababu has instructed relevant authorities to expedite sanitation work and mentioned that fire-fighting equipment is being brought in from other states. Medical camps have been established for the affected population, and free bus transportation has been arranged. Vegetables are being sold at subsidized rates, and households are receiving essential supplies including 25 kilograms of rice, one liter of cooking oil, and one kilogram of pulses. Efforts are also underway to restore over 20 cell phone towers.
In his remarks, Chandrababu expressed frustration over the political maneuvering during the crisis, attributing the flooding to the failures of the current YSR Congress government. He criticized the previous administration for not completing key infrastructure projects, such as three bridges, which he believes could have mitigated the flooding. Chandrababu also condemned the negligence in addressing issues like the blocked Budameru drain, which was reportedly ignored by the YSR Congress government.
The Chief Minister revealed that the flooding has impacted 140,000 households and emphasized ongoing efforts to address these challenges. He highlighted that the Prakasam Barrage is being reinforced to handle the discharge of 1.5 lakh cubic meters of water and that the army has been mobilized to clear the Budameru drains.
