Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today officially inaugurated the newly built Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad. Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, along with other senior officials, took part in the event. The hospital has been built with a capacity of 1,082 beds, comprising 300 ICU beds, 400 general beds, 88 emergency beds, and 30 dialysis beds, along with 264 dedicated beds for medical tourism, employees, and pensioners. Officials said services would begin in the first phase with around 582 beds, with the remaining beds set to become fully operational by October.
The project cost is estimated to be between ₹1,070 crore and ₹1,126 crore, officials said. The hospital has been built on approximately 22.6 acres within the premises of the Government Chest Hospital, with a total built-up area of 11.68 lakh square feet. Administrative approval for the project was granted on April 21, 2022, during the previous government’s tenure, with the foundation stone laid on April 26 of that year. Construction began in February 2023, with Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) executing the project under a design-build model.
The hospital has been developed as a Centre of Excellence in cardiac, renal, transplant, and trauma sciences. It houses 37 departments, offering super-speciality services primarily in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, nephrology, urology, organ transplantation, neurology, and neurosurgery. Facilities at the hospital include 15 major operation theatres, cath labs, MRI and CT scan units, and radiation oncology and nuclear medicine services. Notably, it is the first government hospital in the country to feature an AI-based pneumatic tube system, which helps transport blood samples and medical reports between wards, laboratories, and the pharmacy within 1-2 minutes.
