Armed Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel apprehended a 36-year-old American national attempting to illegally cross into Nepal from Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district. The man, who identified himself as Jordan Brown from California, USA, was intercepted while trying to cross the border within the jurisdiction of Sonauli Police Station. He did not possess valid identification documents at the time of his detention.
According to Additional SP Siddharth, Brown attempted to flee when police approached him, but security forces managed to apprehend him before he could escape. Officials confirmed that he was carrying neither a passport nor any travel-related certificates, raising immediate suspicion about his movements within the country.
During questioning, Brown told investigators that he had lost his passport while traveling to Thailand on a tourist visa. He further claimed to have previously served in the United States Navy. Following the loss of his documents, he stated that he travelled by sea route via Sri Lanka and entered India on November 2, 2025, subsequently residing in Goa for approximately seven months.
Brown told police that his journey within India took him from Goa to Bengaluru, and from there onward to the Nepal border, all without valid passport documentation. Authorities seized cash amounting to Rs 31,460 along with two mobile phones found in his possession. A case has since been registered against him, and police are conducting further investigation into his activities and identity.
In a separate and significant development concerning national security, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested five Ukrainian nationals and one American citizen on charges of training anti-military groups in Myanmar in drone warfare and other combat techniques. Investigations revealed that the accused had entered India on tourist visas before travelling to Myanmar via Mizoram, with the NIA stating that their activities posed a serious threat to national security. The accused were produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi on July 3 and remain in judicial custody as the investigation continues.
