New Delhi: In a dramatic statement delivered just minutes before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled address to the nation, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he played a key role in preventing a full-scale war between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, Trump asserted that his direct intervention helped stop the escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations. “I stopped the war,” Trump said, adding that he personally urged the leaders of both countries to avoid future conflict and agree to a permanent ceasefire.

“I suggested a permanent ceasefire, and both sides agreed. I’m very proud of that,” Trump stated. He also revealed that he had set conditions for continuing trade relations with both nations. “If you want to do business with us, stop the war,” he said.
Trump’s remarks follow the recent de-escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, facilitated by U.S. diplomatic efforts. On May 10, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire following heightened hostilities sparked by India’s Operation Sindoor and Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling.
The ceasefire agreement and the DGMO-level talks held Monday are being seen as critical steps toward restoring regional stability.
