Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday categorically denied reports suggesting that Telangana Jagruthi president and former BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha would be joining the Congress party. Interacting with the media, he stated that there was “no possibility at all” of Kavitha’s induction into the Congress. Making sharp remarks on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he said the party has only a past and no future in Telangana.
Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that while Kavitha has been making statements regarding corruption within the KCR family, the BRS leadership has failed to offer any clarification. He said Kavitha’s own remarks were leading people to believe that the allegations of corruption against the KCR family were true. As a result, he asserted, there is no scope for public support for the BRS, adding that the people of Telangana do not accept corruption or illegal practices.
The TPCC chief also dismissed the BJP’s prospects in the state, stating that there is no trust in the party in Telangana and that religious politics would not succeed there. He accused the BJP of attempting to gain political mileage by invoking religious sentiments and questioned the linkage between religion and electoral politics. He clarified that while the Congress respects Hindu traditions, it does not seek votes on the basis of religious sentiment.
On governance, Mahesh Kumar Goud said there was no gap between the Chief Minister and the ministers, and that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy does not interfere in the functioning of other departments. He added that ministers have been given full freedom and that holding a Cabinet meeting at Medaram was part of the government’s decentralisation efforts. He described the decision to hold a Cabinet meeting outside Hyderabad for the first time as a positive development.
Referring to welfare and administrative issues, he said the Congress government is implementing welfare schemes that are unmatched in other states and are aligned with public needs. He stated that the party would ensure there are no rebels in the upcoming municipal elections and that ticket allocation would be based on surveys, with preference given to winnable candidates. He also said evidence of corruption in the Bhu Bharati programme, if provided, would be acted upon, and that posts of corporation chairpersons would be filled soon. He concluded by urging the unemployed to compare the number of jobs created during the BRS’s ten-year rule with those provided in the last two years under the Congress government.
