Hyderabad: The Telangana government has officially finalized the report on reservations for local body elections. The 700-page report, presented by Dedication Commission Chief Boosani Venkateshwarlu, was handed over to Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari. The report will guide the Panchayat Raj Department in implementing reservations from the village ward level to the Zilla Parishad Chairman level.

According to the report, reservations will be allocated based on segments, with each level—village, mandal, district, and state—treated as a separate unit. Village wards will have reservations for ward members, while mandals will have reservations for MPTCs (Mandala Parishad Territorial Constituencies). Districts will have reservations for ZPTCs (Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies), and the state will be treated as a unit for determining Zilla Parishad Chairman reservations.

Following the report’s finalization, it will be forwarded to the BC Welfare Department for finalizing the reservations based on the recommendations of the Dedication Commission.

As opposition parties and BC caste organizations express concerns regarding the state’s comprehensive caste enumeration, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed MLAs to prepare for the upcoming local elections. In a key directive, he emphasized the need for steps to ensure 42% reservation for BCs in local bodies.

During a meeting held on Thursday at the Marricherla Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Centre in Hyderabad, CM Revanth Reddy guided MLAs and clarified that Congress should solidify its influence in the upcoming local elections and achieve victory at all levels.
