The Chief Secretary of Telangana, Shanti Kumari, has announced that 29 districts affected by recent heavy rains and floods will be officially designated as flood-affected. The state government has already declared four districts as flood-affected and allocated funds to the respective district collectors for immediate relief and rehabilitation. Additionally, three crore rupees each will be released to the remaining 25 districts.
In a teleconference with district collectors, Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari requested a comprehensive report on the damage caused by the floods and rains to be submitted by Monday afternoon. The meeting, attended by state government officials including Special Chief Secretaries Ramakrishna Rao, Arvind Kumar, and Vikas Raj, emphasized the urgency of the situation.
The designation of these 29 districts follows significant rainfall recorded from August 31 to September 3. All districts, except Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Sircilla, have been affected by the rains.
Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari confirmed that the Chief Minister has directed the immediate release of three crore rupees to each district for urgent rehabilitation efforts. These funds are to be utilized according to SDRF guidelines. A high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is scheduled for Monday to review damage reports, rehabilitation strategies, and required assistance. Senior officials will be appointed to prepare detailed reports on crop losses, livestock deaths, agricultural damages, and infrastructure impacts, including roads, culverts, bridges, school buildings, and water supply pipelines. The Chief Secretary also noted that 29 fatalities have been reported so far, and details for ex-gratia payments will be provided.
