As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, 71.23 lakh people have been identified as eligible for inclusion in the final voters’ list, State Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy has said. He stated that hearings on the notices were completed by October 7, with approval granted for the inclusion of these names.
Authorities issued a total of 92.88 lakh notices over discrepancies in electoral records and other technical grounds, of which 91.92 lakh have been served on voters. The window for receiving claims and objections closed on October 7. Officials said all objections will be resolved by November 5, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on November 9.
The draft roll released by the Election Commission on August 17, following a door-to-door survey, showed 3.38 crore voters statewide. Of these, 73.39 lakh were flagged as deceased, shifted, or duplicate entries, including approximately 57.46 lakh voters who had permanently changed their address, 9.22 lakh who were found to be deceased, and 6.70 lakh who were registered at more than one location.
Meanwhile, the BJP has urged the State Chief Electoral Officer to ensure mandatory field-level re-verification of cases across the state’s 119 constituencies where 15 or more votes are registered under a single house number. The party said its own data analysis had identified roughly 1.63 lakh such votes, and called on booth-level officers to examine them thoroughly.
