New Delhi: Indian Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda has sparked a political debate with comments on India’s foreign policy, particularly regarding Pakistan. In a recent interview, Pitroda suggested that India should reconsider its diplomatic approach and prioritize engagement with Pakistan. He also stated that whenever he visits Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Nepal, he feels “at home,” citing the shared cultural and historical ties between the countries despite challenges such as violence and terrorism. He emphasized the importance of dialogue with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The remark that “Pakistan feels like my own home” drew sharp criticism from political leaders. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari condemned the statement as a threat to national security, demanding an apology from Congress and Rahul Gandhi. He argued that such remarks were disrespectful to Indian soldiers and citizens, particularly in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Jammu & Kashmir.
Pitroda later clarified that his comments were intended only to highlight cultural and social connections, not to downplay security concerns or geopolitical challenges. The Congress party has not yet issued an official response, while Pitroda’s previous statements on China and taxation have also stirred controversy, adding to the political sensitivity of the current situation.
